Hello everyone,
It is hard to believe that December is already here, who can believe it? This is a very action-packed time for us as here at Clawson; we have our production of “Annie” this month. Those dates are: December 8th at 6:00pm, December 9th at 6:00pm, and December 10th at 2:00pm and 7:00pm. The cast, crew, and pit orchestra have been working extremely hard in preparation for this production and I could not be more proud of all those students! Tickets for that show are available now on the choir website for reserve seating and also available at the door, the tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students. We also have our winter concert December 15th at 7:00pm. Both of these events will be in the high school auditorium. There was some confusion about my concert policies and the document that contains them so to save all confusion I have posted the document that shows the required dress and behavior expectations. The only thing that is different on that sheet is the call times. For this concert we are having professional photos taken of the high school groups so we will need the students in the choir room a little earlier than usual. The call-time for high school students is 5:00pm and the call-time for middle school students is 5:45pm, it is important that your student is present and ready to warm-up at those times. The document for all the concert policies can be found on the choir’s website under the “Events” tab. Our final event of the month of December can be found at Kenwood Elementary where our 5th hour Clawson Chorale will be performing selections from their concert for the students of Kenwood to spread some holiday cheer before break. We greatly look forward to this opportunity to sing for younger students and I am confident they will enjoy the music very much. That will be December 20th during school hours. As you can see we have a ton of wonderful events this month scheduled for the Clawson Vocal Music. I greatly look forward to making great music with your students and start my first string of performances here at Clawson! As always, if you have any questions feel free to contact me. Make sure to take a look at the choir website (clawsonchoir.weebly.com) for all the information you will need regarding our wonderful program! Thank you very much and have a great weekend!

Hello everyone and happy Monday!
It is hard to believe that it is already the end of October, and with that it is time to start looking forward to November in the Clawson Vocal Music Program. The month of November starts the steady preparation for our winter concert and preparation for our winter musical Annie. Starting with our musical, rehearsals will continue throughout the month but there will be two changes that are made to this schedule; rehearsal for Annie will be canceled November 8th. Since our students do not have school that day, I understand that it can be a huge challenge to arrange transportation for our students so we will cancel rehearsal that day. Secondly, there will be a time change for the November 22nd rehearsal because of the half-day at Clawson. Our rehearsal will run from 11:00am-2:00pm with pit orchestra rehearsal from 11:00am-12:00pm and cast rehearsal from 12:00pm-2:00pm, please make any necessary preparations to have our students attend. Finally, November 1st will be our parent meeting for all cast and crew members’ parents or guardians starting at 5:00pm in the high school media center. We will cover all the areas of the parent packet that can be found on the choir’s website (clawsonchoir.weebly.com). Other important events to be aware of this month are:
I greatly look forward to the month of November and all of the great music making that is to come. As always, if you have any questions at all please feel free to contact me at your most convenient method of contact. Have a fantastic and safe Halloween! Sincerely, Mr. Eric Essler Director of Choir Clawson Public Schools Happy Friday!
It has been a very productive and exciting week for the Clawson Vocal Music Program! The biggest announcement is that we have started our Annie rehearsals for the upcoming shows December 8-10th. The students have worked hard all week on the first scene which includes the numbers, "Maybe" and "Hard Knock Life"; we have been able to learn the music, script, and have staged this section of the musical. We will start a new scene next week, so be sure to check the schedule which can be found in the "Annie" section of this website to see if your student is scheduled to rehearse. Rehearsals for "Annie" are in the choir room, room 120 at Clawson High School and run from 3:00pm - 5:00pm Tuesday-Thursday, pit rehearsals are Fridays from 3:00pm-5:00pm. For every rehearsal there is a chance that we will finish early, our students are very busy and I want to respect their time as much as possible, so if we are ahead of schedule I want to grant our students their time and release them early. If any students need to use a telephone to call whoever is picking them up, they may use the telephone in my room or in the high school office. Students are encouraged to take advantage of the benches in front of the high school office as their waiting area; this area is monitored by staff members and security cameras. In the classroom at the middle school level, we are continuing our rehearsing of music for the upcoming concert (Dec. 15) and have also started a composition project where the students in small groups take a well-known song and figures out ways to enhance the music by adding sounds and other music to it. At the high school level, we are finishing up voting for choir officers, that voting link can be found on the homepage of this website, that will be posted by noon today. We are also going to audition for the two solo roles in "The First Breath of Winter" today in class today. It has been an action-packed week at CMS/CHS, as always if you have any questions please feel free to contact me! -Mr. Essler Happy Sunday!
This has been a very productive week for the students in the vocal music program at Clawson. We have continued our rehearsing for our December concert making a lot of great progress this week! There has also been a lot of work done in preparation for this year's musical "Annie" which will be performed December 8th-10th. The final rehearsal schedule has been posted on the home page of our choir website which shows all of the obligations to the students participating in the musical. If there are any conflicts please have the students come talk to me so we can work out a solution. Rehearsals will start this Tuesday, October 18th at 3:00pm in the choir room. See the schedule for details. I hope everyone had a relaxing weekend, as always if you have any questions feel free to contact me! Mr. Essler Hello and happy Friday! This has been an awesome week for the Clawson choirs, with the conclusion of our auditions for this year’s production of Annie. This year we had over 60 students express interest in participating in the musical by singing a role, working as a member of the stage-crew, or playing in the pit orchestra. Our rehearsals for that will start the week of October 16th with a master schedule coming very soon. Results from the auditions will be posted today at 4:00pm on the choir room door and online on the main page of our website! There will be meetings for stage crew, pit orchestra, and cast members next week to give out the master schedule; be sure to check the calendar for dates and times.
In the classroom, we have continued our preparation for our December 15th Winter Choir Concert, with all ensembles working very hard and producing some great sounds! We have also finished up a form unit where students are now able to identify the structure and layout of different musical pieces. This is a vital skill to have for students because it gives them a greater sense of how music should be performed and allows them to identify similarities and differences in the music which helps greatly during rehearsal. I am very excited to start the musical and begin our work in about a week! As always if you have any questions please feel free to contact me by email. Have a great weekend! Welcome to the brand new official website of the Clawson Vocal Music Program! This will be a main line of communication for everything related to choir at Clawson High School and Clawson Middle where you will find information regarding upcoming events, fundraisers, and educational resources. Please take a moment to sign up for our choir newsletter so you can stay informed and up-to-date with what is happening here at Clawson!
